I just wanted to point out that some of the seafarer maps are completely impossible on this setting (not a complaint, just an observation). Sometimes you can get ones like this:

Almost all the trees are on the opposite side of the river. There’s not enough wood to build a bridge, and after you get an initial goahti and shed for storage up, there will be only one tree left so you’re not going to get enough firewood to keep everyone from freezing to death.

Fun times, enjoy dying, and try again.

Ahh, the bogs spawning trees I didn’t realize. That’s very interesting. Thanks for the info, it’s very useful. It must be a rare thing.

I’m trying again with a different approach, will see if I run into the same problem again. Possible I cut too many trees even though I made sure to leave most of them up, but maybe too many of them were younger? Still should have been enough to get more than deadwood than I was seeing. I’ll keep trying.

Tannery does produce leather from sheepskins, to confirm. Appears to require 4 each, at least for uneducated tanners.

I suspect this may be bogland-related. Every instance I’ve seen so far – four of them – has been in an area of bogland.

    ‘overlived’?

My suggestion, I’m working on Seafarer Ironman right now as well, is simply don’t cut all the trees. Accept growing slower until you can trade for glass and reach the mid-game – then you can build forestry structures and the like.

Not all the structures are updated on the wiki. Sheepskin says you can make leather out of that – I think that’s my next step is getting a Tannery up to try that out.

Just wanted to mention – observation not complaint – that some seafarer maps on this setting are completely impossible due to ending up on the wrong side of the river. Here, there’s only four trees you have access to which isn’t enough for a bridge, and there will be only one left after getting an initial shed and goahti up.

Best-case scenario – everyone eventually starves to death. I’ve also seen the occasional map with no small rivers; esp. if you have a lot of children you are pretty much going to starve without no access to crayfishing.

As I understand it, they have to be 15 to marry. So in a couple of years it’s more likely to work.

The crashing went away after a system reboot, so that part is resolved; the conflict warning in the mod list is still there though.

I do like the idea of flexibility, so that’s a good point as well.   It’s a small matter for me to get used to looking at where the entrance is – but how to best communicate that to other new players of the mod is probably harder.

Ok so I figured out what the problem is – I had another building right by the entrance to it, so nobody could path to the Gatherer Shelter or whatever.  That would make this NOT A BUG – but by way of suggestion, perhaps it should have the directional ‘don’t put anything here’ arrows like most of the other buildings including the houses etc.  or other small structures like the Smoking Shed do?

I notice the Woodcutters Cabin at least doesn’t have them either.  People should definitely not be stupid like me and block off the entrance, but I do think it would be a beneficial enhancement to these structures.
