Banished Ventures

Making a new tavern – Part 1

Our hard-working banished people want a new tavern. The building from their old home country is more a brewery and not nice to sit and celebrate. Looking for a new building, we came across this little gem. It’s the Stora Gungan in Stockholm/Sweden. An old manor house of the 18th century, rebuilt to a tavern.

That’s it and we will design it for Banished. I use SketchUp because I like the workflow with this program. First, a plan is created in tiles. One tile measures 1.66… meters. This is an average height of a human and a citizens height is exactly the length of a game-tile. I use this number to get a simple factor of 0.6 to scale it to the game dimension of 1. It should be built on a 7 x 7 with its porch in front and entrance in the middle. It has to be moved slightly to the rear, so that people will use the entrance properly. On the left a side street is planned and a first simple model is created quickly.

I check the proportions in game before I construct all details …

This model has about 2300 vertices and 950 faces. Not really much on 7 x 7 tiles and will not cause any performance problems. It looks good so far. In the following step I will split the model into tavern and apartments upstairs. And I will prepare it to work in the game.
